Computing @ UT
In this section, we'll walk you through the process of looking up your NetID, changing your password, and setting up your email. There's a lot of information to cover, so we'll break it up into a few separate pages.
Let's start with the key to computing at UT, your NetID.
Your NetID—What Is It?
The Office of Information Technology (OIT) assigns every student a unique electronic identification, called NetID (Network ID). Your NetID is a unique logon profile that allows you to gain access to university resources over the university’s network. Once your NetID has been authenticated, you will be able to check email and access many of UT’s online resources that are not available to the general public. For example, with your NetID, you can:
- Register for classes and access your grades.
- Log in to any OIT lab computer,
- Access Online@UT (Blackboard),
- Use library services, such as databases and e-journals,
- Interact with parking services, and
- Access many other web-based features offered by The University of Tennessee.
Most importantly, before you can register for classes during your advising session, you must first log in and change your NetID password. So, before you look at all of the wonderful computing resources offered to you at UT, you need to do this now!
